David Carlson Explains AI for Everyone Program during the Duke Winter Breakaway Preview

David Carlson, PhD, assistant professor at Duke Civil and Environmental Engineering, Duke Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and the Duke Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was featured in the Duke Winter Breakaway Preview session on October 30.

Duke’s Winter Breakaway will be held January 4-15, 2021 and will offer learning opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students between semesters.  “AI for Everyone” is one of the 12 modular programs offered in the Breakaway. Carlson, who will be one of the instructors in AI for Everyone, gave a brief overview of the program,  which will introduce students to artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications through a focus on machine learning for image analysis and natural language processing.

During the panel discussion, Carlson discussed his interview in a recent article by Mike Pearl at OneZero , titled “A.I. Can Make Music, Screenplays, and Poetry. What About a Movie?”
